Specifications

Vineyard Location

Vineyard Location

Hahndorf, Adelaide Hills, at 450m elevation. Our top block of the year, hand-picked on March 26 from our Hahndorf vineyard. This elevated site features west-facing 2626 Shiraz and north-facing Montpellier clone Viognier.

Season

Season

Cool conditions in spring favoured excellent soil moisture, followed by a warm and steady November, absent of extreme weather events. Slow ripening conditions aided acid retention and gradual flavour development across all varieties. An exceptional vintage for the Adelaide Hills.

Vinification

Vinification

Hand-picked from the "Grand Cru" section, our blend showcases 2626, R6WV28, and 1127 Shiraz clones. Sorted into two open fermenters—one 100% whole bunch, the other 100% destemmed with whole berries. Simultaneously hand-picked, 3% Viognier joined for co-fermentation. For the destemmed part, juice was drained, and twice-daily pump-overs preserved whole berries. Fermentation wrapped in 11 days; for the whole bunch, 14 days with foot-treading. Pressed into a mix of new and seasoned French oak Barriques, maturing for 16 months. The winemaking team crafted the blend, featuring 34% new French oak and 66% second-use, with 66% destemmed and 34% whole bunch fermentation.

"Deep ruby with purple glints at the rim. Rich and fragrant nose showing blood plums, nori, dried rose petal and hints of dry ageing beef. A sumptuous palate that belies its power and intensity with such silkiness to its glide. Dark fruits, exotic spices sit high whilst underneath it gets dark and meaty with a subtle vege stock savouriness. Great length and the finish is a fine tail of complexity and precision"

- Stuart Knox, The Real Review

"The Shiraz Viognier trend has come and gone, so you know the producers who remain are the ones serious about what they do. This is one impressive, well-made Shiraz Viognier. The Viognier component represents just three per cent of the blend but it’s potent, contributing a lovely aromatic floral lift to the aroma and a touch of citrus skin brightness to the red fruits. Dark cherry and berries, blueberry, violet, acacia, earth, aniseed bring an intense mix of florals and spiced fruit concentration to the aroma. This wine boasts a powerful presence in the glass with spice to the fore. Background vanillin oak help ignite and highlight the complexity of the wine. Tannins are a little savoury and plentiful"
