2024 The Lane Pinot Noir

$30.00 / bottle

A cool-climate Pinot Noir with lifted aromas of bramble fruits, allspice, and a hint of Campari. On the palate, a fleshy core of black cherry, raspberry, and strawberry shines, with juicy acidity and silky tannins. Fresh, vibrant, and fruit-driven.

Season

Season

2024 delivered a cool, even growing season that yielded wines with intense yet delicate flavours and vibrant colours. February and March saw an absence of rainfall, coupled with low crop yields and warmer temperatures, which led to an unusually fast-paced harvest.

Vinification

Vinification

Pinot Noir was harvested by hand and machine in cool conditions, enabling whole bunch inclusion. Fermentation kept vineyard parcels separate, mostly with 100% de-stemmed ferments and a few whole bunch ferments for complexity. A 3-5 day cold soak at 10°C was followed by a cool, slow fermentation, with temperatures rising to 30-32°C at the end to ensure structure and complete sugar conversion. Basket-pressed parcels were carefully blended from 12 small-batch ferments across four vineyards. Aging primarily used second-use and older oak, allowing the wine's fruit and bunch complexity to shine over oak influence.

"First reaction is to consider this wine hard to pin down and maybe even a little light on potential. That would be wrong. It’s a quiet one. Take your time to get to know it a little better. Red cherry, cranberry, thyme and spice aromas. Take in the sinewy texture, the snappy fresh, lively flavour and consider what lies in store beyond the immediacy of the sour cherry notes, the hint of bon bon confection, the spice and pepper. It’s coiled and will be rewarding to see it – taste it – unfurl"

- Jeni Port, Wine Pilot
