Our Winery

Our winery is headed by Sam Milne, who brings a rich family background in wine and extensive global experience. Sam heads a dynamic team alongside assistant winemaker Hugh Duckworth and cellar master Shigemasa Yoshitome. Each of The Lane’s wines are carefully crafted by this small team to capture the cool-climate terroir of the Adelaide Hills in a bottle.

Quality and character are central to The Lane’s winemaking philosophy, driving all of our decisions; from vine management, picking the fruit, vinification, oak selection, grading and blending the final wine.

The Lane’s state of the art winery was built to handle small batches, enabling us to keep every parcel of fruit separate; from individual blocks to specific panels within the vineyard. The majority of our fruit is handpicked from our own vineyard, but we also work with long term, loyal growers across the Adelaide Hills.

Most of our picking takes place in the cool morning hours, with the fruit then delivered directly to the winery at the top of the estate. Here, Sam and the winemaking team vinify the fruit which is then matured in our cool underground barrel cellars. The resulting wines form The Lane’s four signature ranges – Lane, Gathering, Estate and Heritage Series – each a reflection of their unique vineyards of origin.
