Vineyard LocationVineyard Location
Situated within our Hahndorf estate in the Adelaide Hills, our vineyard parcel, located at an elevation of 450m, encompasses two of the highest Shiraz blocks on the estate. The chosen north-facing vineyard, characterized by a uniform aspect, was specifically selected to yield the 2020 Reunion Shiraz. The lean ironstone-rich soils contribute to a moderate vine vigor, resulting in the production of compact bunches with intensely concentrated flavors.
Season
The 2020 vintage at The Lane estate in Hahndorf, Adelaide Hills, experienced a cool November marked by an average daily temperature of 13.1°C. This led to slow vine development and late flowering, influenced by strong southerly winds. December presented a challenge with extremely hot days and nearby bushfires, but fortunately, The Lane estate was spared from smoke effects. The vintage was compact, yielding 30–50% less due to a significant amount of hen and chicken. As a result, the fermenting wines exhibit intense flavors with assertive natural acidity.
Vinification
Blocks undergo tailored destemming and 14-day fermentation in small static fermenters. Twice-daily pump overs extract color and tannin. Post-basket pressing, the wine settles, maturing for 16 months in a blend of new and old oak barrels. The final blend, showcasing 54% new French oak from Barriques and Puncheons

"Graceful and sophisticated, the wine shows dark berry, rich floral, thyme, game and roasted nut aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully complex palate that's beautifully layered with rich texture and beautifully pitched tannins. Powerful yet elegant and harmonious with a lengthy structured finish"
- Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"Difficult vintage but you’d not know it here. This is good. Ripe plum and red cherry flavours with clovey, toasty inflections. Solid as a rock but fresh and modern with it. Beautiful fruit. Beautiful balance"
- Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front
