2022 19th Meeting Cabernet Sauvignon

$70.00 / bottle

The 2022 vintage of the 19th Meeting Cabernet Sauvignon has been a labour of love, meticulously crafted to capture the very essence of the vines that have graced our vineyard for thirty years.

We are thrilled that the latest vintage is now ready to be enjoyed, but we must also share the news that this will be our LAST ever vintage of this wine… the 2022 is our Final Meeting.

A single-vineyard Cabernet displaying lifted aromas of blackcurrant, bay leaf and choc mint with notes of cedary oak. A concentrated palate of savoury cassis, blackberry and blueberry fruits with granitic tannins and lifted oak complexity.

Limited to six bottles per order.

Vineyard Location

Vineyard Location

Sourced from a single vineyard parcel within our Hahndorf estate in the Adelaide Hills, the 19th Meeting Cabernet Sauvignon epitomizes the unique terroir of this region. This exclusive block, situated at an elevation of 440m, is a north-facing terraced vineyard characterized by ancient soils, predominantly gravel with limestone/calcium silicates, and ferrous pebbles spread throughout.

Season

Season

Vintage 2022 was distinguished by a long, cool ripening period, and the anticipated La Niña influence had minimal impact. Although crop loads were slightly reduced compared to 2021, they remained close to average, benefiting from substantial canopies. Even budburst was encouraged by mild and dry conditions in September, yet cool temperatures in October and November delayed flowering and fruit set. Summer temperatures were just below average, with limited days exceeding 35°C and none surpassing 40°C. Rainfall in late January maintained soil moisture before harvest. Mild, dry conditions during vintage, coupled with cool nights, enhanced flavor development. The unseasonably cool Spring conditions led to a delayed harvest, lingering into May. The resulting wines from 2022 are richly flavored, marked by exceptional quality, making it a vintage to anticipate across all varieties.

Vinification

Vinification

Fruit from a single vineyard parcel was carefully handpicked at an elevation of 440m. The LC10 clone Cabernet Sauvignon undergoes a precise destemming process before being gently placed into large static fermenters. The subsequent 14-day fermentation period, marked by regular pump overs, ensures optimal color and tannin extraction. Basket pressing follows, separating the wine from the skins, and the juice is settled before maturation.

"The wine displays a rich red-purple color with a vibrant gumleaf-mint and blackberry aroma. The palate is both intense and full-bodied, featuring firm tannins and stylish elegance. Every component is in balance, and the mint is pleasantly subtle, contributing a nice lift to the mulberry/cassis fruit on the nose"

- Huon Hooke, The Real Review

"A fine-boned, age-worthy young Cabernet. Close your eyes. That spice, that heavenly spice component, arrives in layers and is quite intoxicating. Cool climate varietal character is strong here in cassis and leafy aromas backed by clove, cinnamon, a touch of acacia, violet florals and vanilla. The vanillin oak assumes a bigger, more obvious role on the palate tying everything nicely together. The overall impression is one of delicacy within a medium bodied framework. And, yes, that spice is definitely a strong suit and a selling point"
