Lifted, fine and elegant, this classic cool-climate Shiraz opens with ripe dark berry aromatics and hints of pepper and aniseed, flowing into a vibrant, fruit-forward palate of juicy plum, bright acidity and supple tannins.

Season
The 2023 season was long and cool. Steady and consistent ripening matched with low crop loads ensured all varieties ripened well with the benefit of good-sized canopies. Mild, cool nights enhanced flavour development. The resulting wines are richly flavoured and high in quality with incredible aromatics.
Vinification
Selectively harvested with on-board sorting, whole berries were fermented to preserve fruit purity, with 1% estate-grown Viognier co-fermented in select parcels. A mix of wild and selected yeasts was used, before pressing to seasoned French oak for maturation.

"Deep ruby red hue. Fragrant nose of mulberry, black pepper and candied violets. Pretty and floral on entry then a deeper purple fruit profile emerges along with an undertone of bloody minerality. Tannins work finely, drying and driving while a subtle lift of acidity brings a freshness and keeps the palate in the medium weight spectrum. Great length and poise to the finish."
- Stuart Knox
"Sourced from The Lane estate vineyard east of Hahndorf, a range of blocks and clones, whole berries co-fermented with a dash of Viognier. The styling has excellent estate form, much loved in a previous guise known as Block 5 Shiraz, and now carrying on its storyline with a genuine prettiness in the aromas – thanks in part to the Viognier, but also a cooler climate expression teased here from Hills Shiraz. Florals abound, articulated in a violet note, with weaves of pepper and crunchy black berry fruit, juicy, lively, medium bodied and energetic, with just the faintest of pleasing gastronomic bitters in the finish. A very smart, modern Australian Shiraz"
- Tony Love
"Offering excellent purity and perfume, the wine shows Black Doris plum, blueberry, clove and toasted almond characters. The palate delivers succulent fruit flavours with excellent weight and silky mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by fleshy texture and polished tannins"
- Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"I often enjoy entry-level shiraz more than I do some higher-tier expressions in this country. There is an overreaching tendency toward excessive reduction. Mercifully, this address' approach is judicious. While far from the majestic performance of a top cuvée, stellar value is on show. Redcurrant, briar, white peppercorn and a smear of black olive linger across a meaty, almost ferrous finish. Good gear"
- Ned Goodwin, Wine Companion
"A rich ruby red hue with blueberry and bay leaf aromatics. Medium to full bodied with plush purple fruits driving the core of the wine. Hints of black olive, pepper and bay leaf add character and interest to the flow and it is carried long by finely grained tannin"
- Stuart Knox, Real Review
"Distinctive Syrah character with meaty liquorice flavours, plush and long with mineral undertones and black cherries"
- International Wine Challenge
"Shiraz co-fermented with a touch of Viognier, which explains the deep purple colour and fragrant floral aroma profile. Opens with toasted black pepper and graphite. Expressive notes of violet, brambly dark berries, candied dark cherry, and roasted sour plum. Meaty and fleshy on the palate, accompanied by the sweet and sour interplay of ripe dark fruits. Integrated oak allows the fruit to speak openly. Savoury graphite tannins are interwoven with lingering cherry pith and black tea flavours. Top value here with the possibility of further ageing!"
