Specifications
Vineyard LocationVineyard Location
Situated within our Hahndorf estate in the Adelaide Hills, our vineyard parcel, located at an elevation of 450m, encompasses two of the highest Shiraz blocks on the estate. The chosen north-facing vineyard, characterized by a uniform aspect, was specifically selected to yield the 2021 Reunion Syrah. The lean ironstone-rich soils contribute to a moderate vine vigor, resulting in the production of compact bunches with intensely concentrated flavours.
Season
A relatively wet start to the 2022 season with high rainfall in winter and full soil moisture profiles in spring. A very dry but unseasonably cool summer resulted in a long and steady ripening period across both whites and reds. This aided fruit intensity and flavour development whilst maintaining great natural acidity.
Vinification
Blocks were destemmed and fermented separately in static fermenters for 14 days with twice-daily pump overs for optimal colour and tannin extraction. After basket pressing and settling, the wine matured in a mix of new and old oak for 16 months. The final blend showcased 28% new French oak from a mixture of Barriques and Puncheons.

"There’s an inherent prettiness to this wine but then it’s also meaty and substantial. It carries more than its fair share of elegance too. It tastes of black cherries, roasted plums, smoked meats and leaf matter, with red rose and cedar characters adding extra polish. This wine is dry and firm but the fruit still feels juicy, and the finish is well sustained. From every angle, basically, it’s an excellent wine."
- Campbell Mattinson
"Graceful and sophisticated, the wine shows dark berry, rich floral, thyme, game and roasted nut aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully complex palate that's beautifully layered with rich texture and beautifully pitched tannins. Powerful yet elegant and harmonious with a lengthy structured finish"
- Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"Difficult vintage but you’d not know it here. This is good. Ripe plum and red cherry flavours with clovey, toasty inflections. Solid as a rock but fresh and modern with it. Beautiful fruit. Beautiful balance"
