Season
A relatively wet start to the 2022 season with high rainfall in winter and full soil moisture profiles in spring. A very dry but unseasonably cool summer resulted in a long and steady ripening period across both whites and reds. This aided fruit intensity and flavour development whilst maintaining great natural acidity.
Vinification
Crafted from our estate's premium Syrah 2626 clone, the grapes were meticulously harvested by a selective harvester with onboard sorting. Whole berries, gravity-fed into a static fermenter, underwent daily juice pumping to preserve their integrity during the 7-day cool fermentation, fortified with a blend of aged and light brandy spirit. After 16 months in French oak, the final blend emerged from two seasoned barriques.

Deep ruby with a purple tint into the rim, a touch of viscosity in the glass. Mulberry, crushed lavender bush and white pepper aromas with a lift of spirit. Palate fills with rich sweet mulberry, rosemary, anise and violets all filling the sense. The sweetness is well balanced by a subtle tannin line and both acid and spirit lifting and freshening it. Rolls very long and keeps its form and balance right to the end. It is not overly sweet, offering some classic cooler climate shiraz nuances that make it immensely appealing particularly alongside cheese and some desserts. It will be fascinating to see how this matures in bottle
