| John Edwards, a self professed bon viveur, developed a thirst for global business through entrepreneurial and marketing roles in the diamond tool, granite and grand prix industries. This lifestyle however came at a price. After an Adelaide, London, Johannesburg, Paris fast turnaround flight John knew something had to change! The wine industry was in a boom cycle. John didn't have any viticultural experience but he knew someone he could trust to be his Guru. He searched for two years for land with the aspect and terroir he wanted for his vineyard. When he walked through the old farm gate on Ravenswood Lane, he realised his dream - land on which he could grow extreme quality fruit for distinguished, complex, sought after wines. |
From the very first wines produced under the Ravenswood Lane label in 1996 John’s enthusiasm and belief in the terroir of The Lane Vineyard was rewarded with exceptional sauvignon blanc, shiraz and chardonnay. The quality of The Lane Vineyard wines together with John’s forthright and colourful character led to a seven year joint venture with the Hardy Wine Company, where John was vigneron and the legend behind the Adelaide Hills brand Starvedog Lane. He left the joint venture in 2005 to fully realise the potential of his family vineyard by producing single vineyard wines in a new, state-of-the art small batch winery at Ravenswood Lane. No one is more serious about making wine fun... |
Helen Edwards didn’t realise 20 years in executive management were really about preparing her for a role in a family wine business. Mrs Cash Flow in the early days of the vineyard today she works full time at The Lane in administration. Helen continues her outside interests as a Governor of St Peter’s College, a member of the Australian Press Council and Vice President of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region Association. |
Marty Edwards decided the only way he could sail seven days a week was to join the Navy where he became a Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officer. He successfully combined his operational commitments and international Special Forces training with viticulture studies at Charles Sturt University. Marty joined the family business in 2001 and is now Vineyard Manager and responsible for the UK market. Marty is a member of the Adelaide Hills Wine Regions Wine Show Committee and a Hutt Street Centre, Touchwine Ambassador. |
