Max & Finn

We all know there is a special connection between wineries and dogs but the legend of Max and Finn begins, as it should, in the vineyard with a very special blessing.

In 1993 when Helen and John moved to the old potato farm, now The Lane Vineyard on Ravenswood Lane, their days were long. A vineyard to plant,a home to build, often it was dark when they left the property. Night after night they saw a black dog sitting at their gate. “One day I want a dog like that. One that waits at the gate for me” Helen would say.

The dog, a street kid known in the neighbourhood as Blakey, was waiting indeed! When the house was finished he moved in. His love, friendship and viticulture skills were invaluable in those early days.

There was no greater mouser!

He died peacefully in 2001 under the coffee table after savoring a rib bone on the lawn.

Now no one dog could replace Blakey so it took Max and Finn to fill his shoes.

Of impeccable breeding, Father “Prince” was a stud dog and Mother “Schooner” a street girl; Max and Finn were Schooner's litter of two. So they have been together since conception.

Today you will find these two dogs working at The Lane Vineyard. Max,red and white, electric blue eye like her Father, is vineyard supervisor. Finn, black & white livery like Schooner is in charge of guest relations. Please make yourself known to them when you call by.
